Letter from the President

Greetings Alumni and Friends,

I am delighted to have the honor of serving as your President for the 2007-2009 term of office. During this term, the HUAC-GWDC will continue its more than 50 year tradition of supporting the University’s mission and goals, supporting Howard University students, and serving the greater Washington, DC community.

Annually, the Club grants scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students, conducts workshops and seminars for incoming matriculated students, and supports worthy endeavors such as Alternative Spring Break, the National Education Association’s Red Cross America Program, and Project Giveback.

We also sponsor annual activities to raise scholarship funds and to promote networking and camaraderie among Howard alumni. These include our Alumni-to-Alumni mentoring Program, Family and Friends Picnic, Holiday Party and our Post Charter Day Jazz Brunch and Fashion Show which is our signature fundraising event.

This year the Club’s goal is to increase our visibility and outreach through collaborations and partnerships. We have already started the year with exciting collaborative activities. Our opening session presentations from our community partners: Hope and a Home, Network to Hire, and Beta Communities. In collaboration with the HU Department of Alumni Relations, we hosted an Alumni Reception which was held in conjunction with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative conference.

These exciting events are just a sampling of the exciting opportunities and activities we have in store for our members and friends. We invite you to join the Club, participate in our events and most importantly, help us provide scholarship support to deserving Howard University students.

We hope to see you soon!

All the best,

“Dr. Val”
